(¿1603?, Lutjegast, Países Bajos–probablemente antes de 22 oct. 1659, con certeza antes de 5 feb. 1661).

Explorador holandés. Al servicio de la Compañía Holandesa de las Indias Orientales, hizo viajes de exploración y comerciales a Asia meridional y sudoriental (1634–39). En 1642 fue enviado por Anthony van Diemen para descubrir el hipotético continente meridional del Pacífico y una posible ruta a Chile. Zarpó de Batavia (actual Yakarta), llegó a los 49° S y 94° E de donde viró al norte y descubrió el territorio que llamó Tierra de Van Diemen (Tasmania), bordeó luego la costa de Nueva Zelanda, creyendo que era el continente meridional. También descubrió Tonga y las islas Fiji. En su siguiente viaje (1644) navegó en el golfo de Carpentaria y a lo largo de las costas septentrional y occidental de Australia.
